Enter, the food guy. He insinuates himself into mom's life, and tries to play up to me by bringing treats -- all right, they were good treats. Yummy, scrumptious, who-could-resist kinds of treats -- but lo! I was not easily swayed by this neer-do-well!
After all, it had been be me and mom, mom and me, from the first time we met. Who was it who had nursed me back to health from the brink of eternity? Who had saved me from emotional abuse and neglect? Mom! Who didn't laugh at me when my hair was gone and who put the yucky stuff in my ears when they got infected? Mom! Who set a place at the table and let me eat with her when there was just the two of us? That's right, good ol' Mom!
First, this guy shows up and starts spending a lot of time with Mom. A LOT. Then he takes her out to see his boat. And she falls for it! Hook, line and anchor!
Before I know it, I have a new life jacket, and we're out on the water! Then the sails are up, and all I can do is hang on... believe me, it's not that easy to do with paws!
Suddenly, all the routines are changed. No more nice yard and big house. Now I have to share a dog house with those two -- and climb a big ladder to get in and out of the thing.
I have to get one of them to take me to the bathroom anymore, and they spend way too much time tearing up the dog house and making noise with power tools instead of playing with me.
But Mom still loves me, and takes me with her everywhere she goes.
As for the food guy? Well, he grows on ya. And he still has all those great treats!

Mom and I still get to enjoy quiet time together when the food guy goes off to work. It means a lot to me. I think Mom likes it, too.

Here I am, taking a break from the advanced physics course I was taking (okay, okay, it was just an algebra class!) while mom works sitting on the floor. She seems to like it there. I don't get it.
